Yesterday was a first for me. I never go to festivals or anything besides grocery shopping alone. I had a mad hankering to check out our Andover Family Fun Fest, specifically the old vintage car show.
I will say this and maybe it sounds nerdy or juvenile, but I was nervous as fuck walking up there by myself. At least when you are with someone, you can chat with them about what you see. But by yourself you do a lot of out loud "That's cool", "That's pretty" -- and you are talking to the air.
As I walked up to the stoplight just before entering the fest, my nerves dissolved as I saw all of those colorful vintage cars on display. So many people looking at them and admiring them. I knew I made a good decision to put my big girl panties on.
I walked across the road with a pep in my step, my pretty ankle length sundress flowing in the breeze, and Sierra Ferrell pumping in my ears. I conquered my fear of going alone.
The first car that I saw was an old Buick. The interior had almost a lacey pattern. The car itself and the interior was a mix between a pinot noir and mahogany. Absolutely stunning. I knew that one was going to be on my list as a contender for the best car.
I didn't take a picture any cars until I made sure that we could. I spoke to the guys at the voting tent. They also said you can vote for as many cars as you want. It's been years since I went to the car show, so I just wanted to make sure I was cool to put my photographer's hat on.
The second one that caught my eye was a Monte Carlo. Black. Long. Curvy front. Regal nose emblem. A knight's helmet with a shield shaped red crest. Red, Black, and Silver. I think that was the best part of it for me. I learned this time going to the car show that I like a good-looking care with an impressive emblem. This was the 2nd car I voted for.
The last car that I voted for was a Mercedes Benz. The color is hard to explain. It reminded me of the color of spring peas. Slightly seafoam green. Not quite olive green. Regardless, it was pretty. The wheel hub caps were the same green and they had the Mercedes Benz emblem on them. I got such a cool photo of the emblem, where you could see my city water tower and myself in the reflection in the chrome front.
Next time I go to a car show I will pay attention to the year of the car. That is one detail I didn't record. But I learned that the color alone would turn me away from a car or pull me in. It was fun to put my photographer's cap on and photograph these vintage vehicles. Now, if only they would have let me get up there and be a pin up model. That would have made for a perfect day LOL.
I went back to the first car in line, the Buick. I took a couple pics and as I was taking them a mad asked me if that was my car. I laughed and said "No, I wished it was my car". He asked if I wanted a picture in front of it. So, I got a picture by that Buick!!! That was really nice of him. Who knows, maybe that was his car. I guess I will never know.
Other details of the day...
I ran into an old Karate friend, and he talked about different car shows he has gone to, and we talked about social media a little bit. A lady complimented me on my dress and how nice it must be on a hot day like today. I bought a $2 water and donated the change of $3 to the fire department. I complimented an older gentleman on his top hat.
Then, satisfied with everything, I walked home...with a smile on my face.
That is all I have. May you have a relaxing Sunday. Love, Alimoon
